South America: Hypopygus minissimus is known only from the upper Orinoco in Venezuela (vicinity of San Fernando de Atabapo, Río Cunucunuma, and Río Sipapo), and from a tributary of the Casiquiare canal in Venezuela (Río Candela) (Ref. 88778 ).
