- Africa: Uele River drainage, upper and middle Aruwimi River drainage (Ref. 26634 ) and the Itimbiri (Ref. 106290 ) (middle Congo River basin) in Democratic Republic of the Congo. Also recorded from the Yei River, a tributary to the White Nile in Sudan; this species replaces M. nanum in the non-forested regions of the north-eastern Congo basin (Ref. 26634 ).
