Oriental sillago is known around Indo-Pacific as a marine fish; It occurs in marine waters, and the species reaches a recorded maximum of 30 cm.

Possibly distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific from Delagoa Bay, South Africa to Okinawajima, Japan but not recorded from Australia or southern New Guinea. Very similar to Sillago burrus .
